Just getting the attention of a high spirited child can be a challenge of a life time but being able to keep that child's attention is the true trick to helping them spark their imagination in a sense that learning will be a fun and rewarding experience. Learning should never be confined strictly between the four walls of a learning facility. It should be ingrained in a child's every day activates but far too often the mundane tasks of educating a child are left solely up to the assigned teacher.

It's vital that learning be a partnership between a child, their teacher, their social network and their parents. If a child has this partnership they will surely be set up to succeed in a world that demands more out of them at a younger and younger age! Once this bond is formed you'll see your child learn in exponential ways that you likely thought wasn't possible.

Now, let's get back to the task at hand. You want to be a partner in your child's learning but you have a hard enough time getting their attention long enough to eat dinner or to take a bath! How on earth are you going to get them focused enough to learn? Here is the fun part! Structured learning events with parents should be at a minimum as this is the primary function of the teacher. A child must learn how to function in a highly structured environment in order to function properly in socially when they are in their adult years. Again, this should not be your primary focus when engaging in learning exercises.

Because of this, you can utilize several techniques to keep (or not keep) your child's attention. Many people have found great success in role-playing with their children. A lot can be learned by playing pirates! As your child is busy searching for lost treasure it you're responsibility to fill their heads with the occasional fact or history lesson as you wander around the island with them searching for that lost gold! Don't forget to get lost in time with them. This will not only help you with building educational bonds with your child, it will also help foster an emotional bond with your child that will last through your entire lives.

Utilizing visual stimuli is a great way to use playtime as a learning tool.

Getting down on the floor and holding discussions with your child as you play will encourage the thought process, question asking and will have an end result of a stimulated child.

Sexually Deviant Men?

Psychology is very interesting to me. Why people act the way they do. Sexuality is an interesting topic, and the subject that I have curiousity about is with is Pedaphilia. I have read up why they molest kids and what factors contribute to their becoming sexually attracted to minors. BUT, my question is there hope they can be helped? Can they be changed? and the big question I would like answered is WHAT TECHNIQUES DO THERAPIST USE TO CONVERT SOMEONE WHO IS A PEDAPHILE OR SUFFERING FROM PEDAPHILIA, to change his/her sexual to a normal relationships with adults? What studies have been successful in treating these people??
I hate to see innocent children being abused sexually and I am also one of those believers that education is the answer to prevent this from happening.
The second point I would like to make is that shouldn't great efforts be made to provide better services to help the mentally ill?

Show me one who isn't!
It's out of necessity.

How will Gramm's resignation affect McCain's campaign?

Former Texas senator Phil Gramm, who messed up Republican John McCain's economic message last week with his remarks about America suffering a "mental recession" and turning into a "nation of whiners," has left his official post in McCain's campaign.

Too little, too late.

McCain should have demand that he resign at the time that he said it.

After Gramm called this nation a nation of whiners, he became a non-issue to me.

Technical Analysis on the S&P500 (APRIL 25, 2009)

This is an article about a craft in which I became interested by chance (if there is such a thing) and which changed the way I spent my leisure time ever afterwards. This craft showed me the way to many different offshoots, and eventually led me to set up my own business, selling my own designs.

Patchwork is often thought of as an American craft, but in fact the American pioneer women took their patchwork with them from their home countries, especially England. Much patchwork consists of geometric designs made up in cotton fabrics, but there are other types such as crazy patchwork, which is irregular shapes made up in satins, velvets and other fancy fabrics, and appliqué, which literally means applied work, where a shape, such as an apple or teddy bear made up of one fabric is applied or sewn to another fabric.

When I first became interested in patchwork and quilting some years ago, I didn't know much about it. Actually, I knew nothing. Even though I had been sewing most of my life, I had never tackled patchwork and quilting, or even thought about them. They were something that was done in America, I thought.

So when I was running a crèche which was attached to a Community House, I was merely interested when mothers collecting their children had half-finished quilts in their enormous bags. Apparently one of the classes being held was Patchwork and Quilting.

After I walked down the hall to take a look at the class, talked to participants, and - most of all - touched the quilts, I was hooked. As I was working in the crèche, I couldn't go to the class, so I went to the newsagents, bought a magazine and wanted to dive straight in. I've always been able to learn practical skills from reading about them.

But what was all this? I had to decide which type of quilt first. Pieced patchwork, crazy patchwork, appliqué. Wholecloth quilts. Geometric designs - scary, all that measuring; numbers have never been my strength. Applique - easier, more margin for error, but can I draw, or am I doomed to trace somebody else's designs, which are never quite what I want. Crazy patchwork - love the look, but all those raw edges - what if they fray.

The batting - which I'd never even heard of before - all these different types! Cotton, wool, polyester, innumerable blends of these - one book says natural only; another says use any - yes, I quickly resorted to the public library and took home a stack of books on all aspects of patchwork and quilting.

And the quilting itself - apparently you either had to quickly master tiny running stitches (running stitches, like we learned at our mother's knee - or was it in primary school) - sounds too simple, yet every book tells the same story here. Oh yes, or you can machine-quilt. Now we're back to choices. Use a walking foot (huh?) or a darning foot for free-motion quilting - sounds a bit professional for a beginner ...

Yes, you've guessed it. I eventually tackled everything I've mentioned and more besides. I'm better at some things than at others of course, but I'm quite good at most. It's taken some years of practice and a great deal of pleasure, but I can say that I'm a quilter ... amongst other textile crafts ... but that's another story.

Could you recommend a good tree nursery in southern Miami?

Hi, I moved to Miami with my 2 years and her husband, who work Miami Beach. I would like to find a rental apartment or a house near the daycare and preschools for our daughter ... but have not found yet a good school. I will work at home for me to travel a problem, but ideally we do not want a long journey for my husband not more. Can anyone help me with 1) finding quality child care (care to education through art and craft of music and preferably an organic / natural home farm / food) and 2) a good neighborhood for children and a growing family. In addition, if this helps move the center Chicago where we had or have a good mix of city and rhythm Environment for Children. Thank you for your help!

All I know to check with Chamber of Commerce. Then check the licenses of day care. Public Works Department, Welfare Department office should be the size of classes and cleanliness, while ECD-Ministry of Education to validate the credentials of employees and oversee programs.

One of the most important things a teacher can do is to develop in children the desire to read. In Kindergarten through second grade students are learning to read. From third grade on they are reading to learn. No matter what grade classroom you teach in, having literacy based designs in classroom furniture can help enhance in students the desire to read.

Having an area of your room dedicated solely to books is important. You can have some special chairs or pillows. Maybe some bean bags or cushions that make the area cozy. But most importantly, you want to display books in a way that makes them easily accessible to the children. As well as accessibility, you want an appealing way of presenting the books.

Having a book display such as mobile library cart or book browser allows students to easily see the books from which they can choose. They can look over the books based on their covers and easily read the titles. This is especially important for younger students who still rely mostly on the pictures to tell them if they are interested in a book. The power of choice also adds to children's desire to read.

In addition to a book display, you can also have a cubby to help store backpacks, dry food lunches, art supplies, homework, parent messages, and rain gear. Teaching young school age children the value of organization helps keep your classroom tidy and provides a positive energy flow. There are even cubbies that have casters and we've heard from teachers that create the cubby monitor of the week who rolls the unit around helping to keep the classroom neat.

No matter how you choose to display your reading area, choose a way that will draw children into the area. Making reading fun and making choosing a book an adventure will help students develop a love for reading that will last for years to come.

In addition to having an area just for books, any classroom would benefit from having a classroom rug dedicated to promoting literacy. There are many rugs for classrooms available that display the alphabet, numbers, shapes, and geography in unique ways. This is a perfect way to engage students in reading or spelling games. Students love trying to spell a word by jumping on letters or rolling a ball to a friend who is sitting on a letter. The possibilities with this kind of a classroom rug are many.

For teachers interested in promoting a bilingual literacy in the classroom, there are rugs available that teach both English and Spanish or English and French. Carpets such as the Amigos Bilingual Educational Rug teach English and Spanish words with pictures. This is a great way to promote literacy in the classroom and also a great way to make learning a second language fun.

Education...... What I mean by this is, install in individuals from an early age that there are consequence to the decisions and action that we make. Consequences not just for the individual but for society as well.

In the prison system in the UK at the present time many thousand of pounds are spent on offending behaviour courses which among other things attempt to do just that. However these courses are undermined by the governments continual underfunding of the prison service. This underfunding leads to staff shortages, so to maintain order in the establishments and to placate the prison population more and more is given to the offender without him/her having to earn it. The offender who may attempt to use the new skills that they have learnt (being assertive rather than aggressive) tend to get ignored, however the one who uses aggressive behaviour appears to get what he wants.
In conclusion, parents , schools, law enforcement and government should all sing from the same sheet and not undermined each other, they should take a united front to anti-social and criminal behaviour. We should also be aware of the negative influence of the current political correctness that affects us all at the moment, yes a person has their individual rights but if they abuse the rights of others and society then they should pay the price.

Clocks are suppose to enable us to tell the time. Before the clock a sundial was used. The sundial had one problem in that when the day was cloudy, it was hard to tell the time. The sundial basically relied upon casting a shadow across a circle that had markings which designate the time of the day.

The economic clock is supposed to be a reliable means of telling what investment is the best investment to be in at the current time in the economic cycle. However, what might have seemed to be a reliable means of telling the what the market was doing for the last 200yrs appears to have come unstuck. This is because the clocks predictions were based on a model that virtually only included Europe and and North America, with the additions of Japan, Taiwan, South Africa and Australasia.

Most of the world's population was largely excluded from wealth and economic growth that affected these first wold economies. The second world economies included the Russian Communist Countries, China and India and Arab countries. The third world was seen as Central and South America, Africa and parts of South Asia.

What the economic clock advocates have failed to take into account is that the second world countries have come on board the global economy and are fast becoming first world countries. What this means is there are 2.5 billion people in India and China who are beginning to participate in the global economy that previously were excluded and also another 1 billion from the Arab and previous European and Russian communist countries.

The new world order is taking place as wealth is being transferred from the Western First World countries to the emerging Second World Countries.

What this means from a financial perspective is the old economic order is on the way out and the new one is evolving. Not to take this into consideration is a mistake when making investment decisions based on the economic clock model. The basic concepts of the economic clock probably are principles that follow one another, except we have seen the share market and real estate both rising together, which is contrary to the economic clock model.

The economic clock goes like this:

1 o'clock --- rising interest rates

2 o'clock --- falling shares

3 o'clock --- falling resources

4 o'clock --- falling overseas reserves

5 o'clock --- falling employment

6 o'clock --- falling real estate prices

7 o'clock --- falling interest rates

8 o'clock --- rising shares

9 o'clock --- rising resources

10 o'clock --- rising overseas reserves

11 o'clock --- easier money

12 o'clock --- rising real estate

In Australia, since the year 2000, there has been continued rising share prices and rising real estate prices and rising resources and rising employment and easier money, which has thrown the clock right out of the window.

Effectively the last six hours of the clock have not responded to the hour glass and the measurement has proven unreliable. Well at least for now, while the emerging countries are making their presence felt in the current global economy.

Just like the old sundial, the one used on the equator would not be reliable at the north pole, due to a changing economic environment the economic clock appears be difficult to understand.

There was a banquet at the house of the Athenian poet Agathon. This man had won the first prize for his drama at the Greek theatre, and he had invited his best friends to join him in the celebration of his victory. The guests were discussing one of their favourite subjects - love. Each one, in turn, was trying to explain his own idea as to the meaning of this all-absorbing topic.

"Love," said Phaedrus, "is the oldest of gods, and one of the most powerful. It is that principle which turns ordinary young people into heroes. For the lover is ashamed to act the coward in the presence of his beloved. Give me an army made up of lovers, and I can conquer the world."

"Yes," agrees the next speaker, Pausanius, "but you must distinguish between earthly love and heavenly love - the attraction between two bodies on the one hand, and the affinity between two souls on the other. The vulgar love of the body takes wings and flies away when the bloom of youth is over. But the noble love of the soul is perpetual."

And then comes the comic poet Aristophanes with a brand-new theory about love. "In the olden days," he tells us, "the two sexes were united into one body. This body was round like a ball, with four hands, four feet and two faces. It moved about with amazing rapidity, using its eight limbs like the spokes of a wheel in a continual series of somersaults. Terrible was the strength of this race of men-women, and boundless was their ambition. They were planning to scale the heavens and to attack the gods when Zeus hit upon a happy plan, 'Let us cut them in two,' he said, 'and then they will have only half of their strength and we shall have twice as many sacrifices.'

"And so he split them apart into male and female, and from that day onward the two halves of the once-united body have been consumed with a longing to be united into one. And this longing for the reunion of the sexes is what we call love."

This humorous interpretation of love is followed by several other interesting definitions until finally the guest of honour, Socrates, is requested to make a few remarks on the subject. "After all this eloquence," begins Socrates, "I am turned into stone and struck dumb. For how can my foolishness compete with such wisdom?"

And, having unburdened himself of this Socratic preface of ironic modesty, he proceeds to confute all their "wisdom" with his "foolishness." He tears down their arguments with a series of unanswerable questions - Socrates was the founder of the quiz method in education - and then he follows this destructive process with a constructive theory of his own. "Love," he observes, "is the hunger of the human soul for divine beauty the love is eager not only to find beauty but to create it, to perpetuate it, to plant the seed of immortality in the mortal body. This is why the sexes love each other - to reproduce themselves and thus to prolong time into eternity. And this is why parents love their children. For the soul of the loving parent creates not merely children but seekers and partners and co-workers and successors in the eternal quest for beauty."

And what is this beauty we are all seeking to perpetuate through love? It is wisdom and virtue and honour and courage and justice and faith - in fact all those qualities that engulf us, radiate beauty and are timeless in nature. In one word, beauty is truth. Man's quest for Truth is routed through beauty. Truth is One and the One is Whole. So truth is the way that leads directly to God.

Is it not ironic that in a country whose constitution provides for the pursuit of happiness now feels a collective guilt to the idea even something fun? How did this happen? When we started to give priority to both productivity and so little leisure or having a good time? Even given the Puritan work ethic, the Life in the United States has become so unbalanced on one side of the scale is about to land.

But why we insist that our children, who by nature are playful, share these values in particular? Why are we so eager for our children to "behave like adults?

But wait, you may think, children play a lot those days. They play T-ball, soccer, tennis ... same

Yes, these are the forms of gambling. But the real definition of the word as it applies child must be sent to the child-ended, and intrinsically motivating. It also focuses more in the process of product, which is technically not true for T-ball, soccer or tennis, where homeruns, goals and points are usually the focus.

However, if you really must have "product" - that is, results - the activities of our children, the game has a lot of that to offer, too. One hand, many experts believe that adult personality is based on the child's play. According to Playing for Keeps, all children the skills they need to become functioning, productive adults from the game. These skills include literacy, mathematical reasoning, the creativity and social skills. Among the social skills learned, the experts are telling us the opportunity to share, cooperate, negotiate, compromise, and to review standards, and take the views of others.

Without doubt, we see the value of those benefits - that these skills will be better serve our children the ability to name the state capitals! But if this is not enough profit, Joan Isenberg and Mary Renck Jalongo, the authors of the expression and creative early childhood program, argue that play

* Allows children to explore their world;

* A cultural understanding;

* Help children express their thoughts and feelings, and

* Offer opportunities to meet and solve problems.

In addition, the game allows children to cope with stress and cope with fears they can not yet understand or express. youth today are exposed to so many so early and must cope with stress much more than their predecessors ever did. Pay gives them an emotional outlet needed and helps them make sense of what they live. And as Playing for Keeps observed when young children play emotional scenes in their games, as reassuring a doll that Mom will return, they learn to cope with fears and increase self-control which lead to the next stage of development.

Writing in Education Week, master teacher Sheila Flaxman states that young children today are controlled by the desires, whims, and rules adults. The game is the only time they can take control of their world. She adds: " The media almost every day control youth must be our warning that something is wrong in infancy. "Indeed, retired psychiatrist Stuart Brown, founder of the Institute for the game in Caramel Valley, California, was quoted in Time magazine as saying that the loss of "game" can lead to depression, hostility and the loss of things that make us human. "

For a large number of adult human contemporary, the balance is a word that came to symbolize something beyond their reach. Something you want, but difficult to achieve, considering as we work long hours, tend to families, and spend some free time, we have as productive as possible. What used to be considered leisure time (remember lazy Sunday afternoon?) are now mandatory. Regardless of whether leisure, "the work of a kind or another, or round the back of children here and there so that we can not waste it. "What did you do this weekend?" Has become a challenge to account on Monday morning. It requires an intelligent response, just as surely as our teacher does algebra eight degrees.

If you an adult who has been to give some consideration the balance - who is tired of the band - perhaps you are looking for good memories of this which now appears as an idyllic childhood. Back in the days when time stretched constantly before you. Before, when there were few requirements to time. And, except for summers, weekends and days when the darkness fell too soon, always seemed a lot of it.

Should not the children of today have memory Similar to cling to when they become busy adults? Let us they have moments of quiet solitude. Child-initiated and directed by the activity. A break in fierce competition so prevalent in society. Let's make sure they have a chance to play!
