The concept of wellness tourism as such is considered to be recent phenomenon. It's currently emerging, developing and becoming new trend. But if we take the core of medical, spa, or any other wellness tourism related type of travelling, we can go back to few centuries BC.

Let`s take Greek baths, Roman thermae, Japanese onsen baths, Turkish baths or hammams in the Middle-East, or even Nordic sauna that includes aquatic procedures - those are all ancient and historical methods designed for relaxation, medical treatment, and rejuvenation. Greek pilgrims travelling to meet healing gods and people visiting India for yoga and Ayurveda purposes were most probably the first medical "tourists".

While medical tourism enjoyed popularity earlier (travelling to other country in order to find cheaper service, shorter waiting lists, better rehabilitation programmes or plastic surgery), spa tourism started supposedly in 1986, when first spa opened its doors. Spreading of spas made it possible to take relaxing trips to foreign countries. Also some institutions offering medical facilities, started to include more "spa", "tourism", and "general wellbeing" to their services.

This all contributed to bringing (medical) treatment, wellbeing, fitness, spas and tourism closer to each other. Today we can talk about wellness tourism or wellness travel, that is explained as:

...travelling for the primary purpose of achieving, promoting or maintaining maximum health and a sense of well-being. It's about being proactive in discovering new ways to promote a healthier, less stressful lifestyle. It's about finding balance in one's life.

Travel to Wellness

Wellness tourism includes for example spa treatments, different fitness activities and sports, healthy nutrition, yoga or meditating moments with yourself, cultural experiences, exploring nature, all kind of inspirational activities, and many more. The idea of wellness tourism is to quit your daily environment for a period of time, relax, spend some refreshing and energizing time with yourself or the whole family.

Although recent area of tourism, many wellness tourism "consumers" tend to be demanding. Melanie Smith, the author of several wellness related researches, points out that people already expect customized products, unique treatments, and extremely high quality service. The use of indigenous products and ingredients has become important. She says that "spas are becoming places to socialise, as they were historically".

It's a new challenge to fulfill the high requirements set by travellers. In order to meet the demand, wellness industry managers must have a good basics of knowledge. Acquiring academical degree or participating shorter courses are two options.

They can join a team sport or get involved in an activity that relies on individual performance, such as swimming, track, or martial arts. Unfortunately, obesity among children is on the rise. Although nutrition is a major factor in controlling weight, physical activity is equally important. Children who are not active are more likely to develop health problems as they progress through life. Active play helps provide a foundation for a lifetime of physical activity.

With the prevalence of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) among children, active play becomes extremely important to their mental and physical health. They need an outlet to release excess energy. Research suggests that active play enhances brain function, and can alleviate some of the impulsiveness related to ADD. It also has a positive effect on memory and learning. Young children thrive on a balance of academics and physical activity. They flourish into confident and healthy adults when active play is integrated into their childhood development.

If you decide on XP as an OS then put a floppy drive in because XP needs a floppy drive for the F6 install of the SATA drivers. Can use a CD or pen drive for that installing Vista.

Softball drills are what ultimately trains a team to win. It's very important that the various drills are adequate in teaching skills for different parts of the game. As the coach, it's your job to decide which drills will give the team the best practice. Here are some free softball drills that you can use.

While the main point of drills is to get practice, try to make them fun! One free softball drill that's a blast is the Machine Drill. You'll need access to a pitching machine like they have at batting cages. You must use three different colored balls: red, blue, and white. You will miscellaneously put the balls in the machine. Direct them to bunt the red balls, take the blue balls and hit away at the white balls. If the team has no access to a machine then use a large bucket with the balls in it and pitch to them.

Another free softball drill that is well-liked is called Knockout. This drill conditions the team's catching and throwing skills. You must split the team into two groups and send them to opposite corners of the field. You'll be the pitcher for one group and the assistant coach can take the other. This drill should be speedy. You'll throw the ball to the first person, the player catches it and then successfully throws it back to you. Each time this happens, the team will get a point. If the player doesn't catch the ball or she doesn't throw a catchable one back to you, no point is scored and she must go to the end of the line. This drill should only last about five minutes. Just for fun you can make it so that the winning team gets to sit out during the next running or jogging warm-up.

The last free softball drill is a team-building activity. It's called Stepping Stones. You will lay out seven pieces of cardboard and have groups of six. The middle piece should be empty. You will put three people, facing the middle, on both sides of the empty piece. The goal is for the people to exchange places with the middle still empty at the end. There are some restrictions: Only one player can move at a time; players can only move forward; a player can jump another player if there is an empty piece on the other side but you can't jump more than one player; after each move everybody must be on their own piece. There's another twist since this is a softball drill. You'll give one person a softball. Whoever is going to be moving must be holding the ball; therefore, the players will have to toss the ball to one another and catch it and it's only then that they can move. This drill calls for teamwork and communication, plus they'll be practicing balancing, throwing and catching.

All of these free softball drills work different skills. All of the skills that are being used are skills that are needed for the game. These drills are both fun and useful!

I'm an avid reader and collector of books. In fact I've already amassed a huge number of books in my library. Reading is a favorite pastime of mine, and I always make it a point to visit a bookshop at least every other week. It feels good just browsing around new books.

I consider it a good experience when the bookshop not only sells the books I want, but the experience of buying the books is excellent. I've been very privileged in working here in Singapore, where I can have access to most of the books I could ever want. For all the booklovers out there, let me help you on your quest to find the perfect bookstore for you. I highly recommend the following bookshops to add in your favorite haunts and places to kill time:

• Borders

Borders is located in Wheelock Place (Orchard Road). This is their main branch. The other branch is located in Parkway Parade. The thing that I love about the Borders main branch is its location. It's absolute surrounded by chic coffee shops. You can immediately find a place to sit down in own of the vacant tables as soon as you bought the book. Or If you suddenly get inspired in the middle of walking in Orchard Road, you can immediately run to Borders and buy a pen and a notebook, dash to the coffee shop and scribble that piece of poetry that pops in your head. Service is fairly good. The staffs are very helpful in assisting you with what you need. Although I am a bit disappointed that they didn't offer to order for me a book that they don't have in stock.

• Books Kinokuniya

When it comes to an amazing collection of manga, graphic novels, English, Chinese or Japanese magazines, no one can beat Books Kinokuniya. No other bookstore in Singapore can rival its collection. Kinokuniya's main branch is located in Ngee Ann City Takashimaya Shopping Centre (Orchard Road). They also have a couple of branches in Bugis Junction and Liang Court. But if you want a large collection to choose from, better head to the main branch. If you cannot find a book, you have the option of either approaching the customer service desk or go to its book finder machine. You can type the book information on it, and the machine will show you the books currently available on the topic you are looking for. The machine will even print a map for you on a piece of paper. These machines can be found all throughout the store. Staff members are pretty helpful, and will assist you with your needs.

• Page One

Page One is located in Harbourfront Walk, Vivo City. Great place to browse books and read. The store is dotted with a few choice seats with a great view. But you can also sit on the floor in the quiet corners which can be found all over the store. Page One has a good collection of coffee table books and reference books, including Chinese language books. Manga and graphic collection is a bit dismal. But the children's and young adults book section is wide range because the store devoted a large area for it. They also included a small play area for children to read books.

• San Bookshop

If you are on a tight budget but still like to read books. San Bookshop might be the one suitable for your needs. They have several branches within Singapore. But the branches I always frequent are the ones located in Vivo City and Tanjong Pagar Road. Most of the books sold here are either brand new or second hand. They are very cheap. Plus the options of returning the book after you finish reading it is great because you get a partial refund for the money you paid for it. You can buy the books and return it to any branch. If you like the book so much, by all means, keep it and don't return it. Don't lose that receipt though, because you will need that for the partial refund.

I told her that every day of the week I hear about horrible things happening in Australia; muggings, rapes and other sexual offences, home invasions, child neglect, stealing, football thugs, fraud etc. No society is free from crime. And my research had revealed that the Gulf Region of the Middle East was considered safe.

My view has always been that the statistical probability of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and being blown up by an Islamist bomber is less remote than winning the lottery. And if it happens, so be it, we all have to die one day. One can't live life worrying.

I was to learn that the Gulf Region in the Middle East is in fact a relatively violence free area, far less violent than my native Australia and most other Western countries who pride themselves on being "civilised, democratic" societies. The rate of serious crime in the UAE is around 0.5-1.0 per 100,000 people which is far lower than in Western countries that average between 4-6 per 100,000.

I've felt safer here in the last three years than I ever have in some parts of Australia.

Much to the credit of the citizens and government of the UAE, one has little to fear from terrorism or crime here. There are no drunks stumbling about kicking in car doors or smashing bottles on roadways or people's heads; few muggings, no graffiti, and you can park your car anywhere and be certain that it will be there when you get back. Terrorism and crime are not the big killers. The big killers here are the streets and highways where the probability of being killed or maimed is much higher than in Western countries.

Paradoxically, while the road system is the best I have seen, it is also the killing ground for around 22 of every 100,000 people. If you die from misadventure here or anywhere else in the Middle East, it's much more likely to be from motor vehicle trauma than anything else. In fact, road trauma is so bad in the UAE that it is the second most common cause of death following coronary artery disease.

In Dubai, there is an accident every 2.5 minutes and a death every 30 odd hours. Dubai is, of course, the pressure cooker city of the UAE. It's growing too fast, has thousands of construction zones and has inordinate increases in population and motor vehicles annually.

The UAE Government has plans to tackle the alarming number of road deaths that are decimating it's young men and to a lesser extent, women. While the Emirati population (indigenous population) is only 10%, it is involved in 25% of road deaths. It is rare that a program manages to be extremely effective in carrying out whatever is being done is that the cartoon Dora Explorer has proven to be. In many respects, Dora the Explorer cartoon follows in the footsteps of mainstream television as Mister Rogers 'neighborhood' and Sesame Street. These shows, like Dora, has managed to be funny, charming, and even teach children everywhere a number of valuable lessons that have been some of their basic education.

In fact, the cartoon Dora the Explorer teaches many of the basics that children of age group should be learning, in essence, an animated preschool class. However, Dora goes beyond basic shapes and numbers by integrating Spanish vocabulary continuous flow in each episode. This might seem particularly important at the beginning, but here are two basic reasons that make this important in the lives of children today.

The first reason is the state of world relations today. It is often said that the world becomes smaller every day, and for most cases. communications technology making it easier and easier to talk to someone across the world as easily as you can talk to someone in the street. The boundaries between cultures mingle and intersect at an increasing rate. In this world, where communication is the most important, children learn a second language is a potential advantage over other children in the long term. While most high schools require students to take foreign language courses, the child's brain is more receptive to learning languages in their early years. It means that the cartoon Dora the Explorer is to introduce children to Spanish at the age where they are better able to integrate a new language, and thus their creation well prepared for the long term.

The second reason is important, however, is very likely much larger than the first. India is now behind Brazil in the world economic rankings for GDP, it has surpassed Russia thank to its good planning and strategic expenditures in education in the last 20-years. The next 20-years will be an incredible rise to power indeed.

India has the second largest population in the world with over a billion people, but it has not had 10% year over year economic growth as China. Which is actually a good thing, as its careful growth is favorable to China's insane growth, inflationary challenges and infrastructure nightmare.

To date India is number 11 in the World rankings for GDP and its economic engine is beginning to roar. In the next few years it will have passed Brazil, Canada, and Spain putting it at number 8 in the world. By 2012 it will have passed Italy and be neck and neck with France at number six. Due to it's incredibly large population it will not stop there.

By 2020 it will be number three in the World having passed Germany, the UK, and Japan. It will only have at that point the United States and China ahead of it. Those who do not see its economic advantage due to its population and smart planning perhaps, will not understand this next statement.

India will be giving the USA and China a run for their money by 2035 as the three super powers of the World. India is an exciting nation with massive potential, and although it could be called an emerging nation, well that will not be for long. Please consider what the world will look like in 2050, as things are definitely changing as we speak.

Healthful eating habits are usually formed long before kids start to select their own foods. Little ones adopt the eating habits of their parents. Parents and child care providers are the first role models that children encounter.

Little ones are awesome observers. When kids see what is going on in the kitchen, they can make a complete dialogue with their invisible friend on how to fry french fries or make a salad.

In several studies involving the eating patterns of kids, researchers found that their eating habits, including preferences for certain foods was traced back to the patterns and preferences of their parents.

As kids go from from bottles to bacon, they start developing eating habits that follow them throughout their lives. Healthful eating habits that are started at a very early age will follow them through adulthood.

Since it is documented that eating healthy can prevent serious illness, it is important that role models start giving a carrot stick or an apple for a fun treat rather than a sugar filled treat. Little ones eat what they see grown-ups eating.

Parents do not notice the major influence that they have over what their kids learn to eat. Following the eating habits of children, research has shown that the attitudes about food are almost as genetic as the color of their eyes. This fact puts a lot of stress on parents.

But understanding the far reaching implications of this study will result in healthier little ones and healthier parents.

Caregivers can relate to the fact that they relate both positive and negative memories with food. When kids are involved in fun activities, they tend to be snacking on junk food. The food offered at the park is all about hotdogs, ice cream and high sugar goodies.

The smell of Grandma's cookies baking in the oven might bring back feelings of love and security. While the smell of vegetables cooking might invoke a negative memory of having to clean the plate of vegetables before getting dessert.

Bribing a kid to eat nutritiously is a short term strategy that will almost always backfire. "These contingency strategies are effective in the short run; they elicit the correct response, says Dr. Fisher, Ph.D, assistant profession of Pediatrics at Baylor College of medicine. In a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Dr Fisher made a direct link to the eating patterns of children and their parents.

Dr. Fisher and her researchers made some fascinating discoveries surrounding the eating habits of kids. The little ones of parents who consumed lots of fruits and vegetables in turn had kids who also consumed the same kinds of foods. Alternatively, parents who only encouraged healthy eating but led an unhealthy eating lifestyle, had kids who consumed low intakes of fruits and vegetables.

Little ones will appreciate and react to the power of influence. Because nutritious eating habits are as important for parents as it for the children, the commitment to eating healthier will be easy.

The moral of the study is that if you want your kids to follow healthy eating habits, the general rule is you must set an example - don't just tell them.
