Introduction

"On February 20, 2000, at the very peak of the Great Bubble, the Public Broadcasting System aired a program on 'The Formula the Shook the World', describing the Black-Scholes Model as 'a mathematical Holy Grail that forever altered the world of finance' and cited an economist who 'likened the impact of the discovery of the Black-Scholes Formula to that of the discovery of the structure of DNA." The Black-Scholes formula would totally revolutionise finance and turned risk management from a guessing game into a science. The Black-Scholes option pricing model led to an explosive expansion in stock options and other financial derivatives. Uses for the formula have been found in virtually the entire area of finance. The model was formulated in 1973 by Fischer Black and Myron Scholes and then later altered by Robert Merton which allowed it to apply to other financial matters, such as mortgages and student loans.

Myron Scholes was born July 1st 1941 in Timmins, Ontario, Canada, inspired by the free - market insights of Milton Friedman and George Stigler, he ended up at the University of Chicago, where he attained his PhD in Finance in 1969. Scholes discovered a fascination for securities markets, arbitrage and the pricing of risk through his assistance in faculty research projects. After finishing his PhD dissertation Scholes became an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Sloan School of Management at MIT. "During my first year at the Sloan School I met Fischer Black, then a consultant working for Arthur D. Little, in Cambridge. We started collaborating on many research projects. It was an extremely productive relationship."

Fischer Black was born January 11th 1938 in Georgetown, USA, and he received a PhD in applied mathematics from Harvard in 1964. Black was also known for his work on the Black - 76 model, the Black - Derman - Toy model and the Black - Karasinski model. In 1994 Black won the International Association of Financial Engineers Financial Engineer of the Year. "In a 30-year career equally divided between academics (University of Chicago) and Wall Street, Black contributed seminal papers in almost every area of finance and many areas of economics, but few were published in major peer-reviewed journals and many were never published at all. He spent most of his time alone in a room thinking and writing, was uncomfortable in large groups, an undistinguished lecturer and famously eccentric in ways more irritating than amusing or dramatic."

Also at MIT at this time was Robert Merton, who was born 31st July 1944 in New York and received his PhD in 1970. Merton was also known for Merton's Portfolio Problem, the Jarrow - Turnbull model, and in 1973 he introduced the Intertemporal Capital Asset Pricing Model known as ICAPM. In 1993 Merton won the International Association of Financial Engineers Financial Engineer of the Year. "Merton was the first to publish a paper expanding our mathematical understanding of the options pricing model and coined the term 'Black -Scholes' options pricing model, by enhancing work that was published by Fischer Black and Myron Scholes."

In 1997 Myron Scholes and Robert Merton were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for their work with Fischer Black. Having all ready passed away, and the Nobel prize not being awarded posthumously, Black was not awarded the prize, however had he still been alive he would have certainly received the honour for the groundbreaking work.

possibility of an American to be accepted Cambridge / London / Oxford for graduate studies?

I got I graduated with an economics and mathematics double degree and I try to go for postgraduate studies in New York or England to finance, MBA, economics, or MSC. The investment approach is probably investment banking and hedge funds. degrees and it would work experience must be accpeted at college in England, thanks in advance)

Prof. response puts the nail on the head for MBA, but I have some experience with the implementation of the LSE, Cambridge, Oxford and an MA in funding programs so I thought I would share. I earned three university degrees (bachelor's degree in Mathematics, BA Economics and Finance BBA) and averaged 3.89. Cambridge applied DEA Finance DEA LSE Finance and a Masters in Financial Economics at Oxford. Categorically rejected by Oxford, was one of the finals in Cambridge, but unfortunately was not accepted (my dream school ... even received a letter of recommendation from a former professor Cambridge !!!), and accepted LSE. LSE was too expensive and I'm in some doctoral programs in the United States, he made the difficult decision not to go England. Is extremely competitive, and his background is similar to mine (if you plan to apply these schools, I am assuming that your average is at least 3.7 +), so it has a shot is never a sure thing. As far as I-banking and hedge fund opportunities after graduation, LSE and Oxford Said are probably your best choice, as Judge Business School is not as respected in the financial community (although still in Cambridge, so you can ...). Good luck! PS It is much easier to be admitted to master's programs in economics in relation to funding, but more difficult to pass money saving i-banking/hedge master, so keep that in mind.

Most of us may never understand the importance of energy until we are without it, like in the recent Black-Out, or while camping or in an electrical storm. Civilizations before us did not have such wonderful light switches and instant power. Many still do not. We are quite privileged in that regard. Think of the daily things you do, that require energy and how important it is to your life.

The flow of energy has always been important to advanced civilization. The ancient Egyptians used people power. They used elephants to move things and even in battle. The water wheel was used as early as 4000 B.C. as power. Steam Engines are much newer. Animals, water and many other improvised methods allowed for the making of machines. Simplifying life, from farming to water pumps for mills, etc. By freeing up the time needed to sustain life, mankind is able to use that extra time to increase his flow of thought and thus coming up with other inventions and devises. Now, fast forward to modern times where we often take for granted our electricity, until of course; it is shut off by a black out. What we see as the ultimate hardship other third world countries do not have at all. And in places like Baghdad only for three hours a day and they are thankful for that.

We should not forget the gifts of Tesla and Entrepreneur Westinghouse for the Hydropower and for free enterprise, which funded the beginnings of what, we now take for granted every time we flick a switch. We all felt the affect of the recent Black out of the Northeast Regional Power Grid, now we realize that we need to upgrade the transmission lines through out all the grids. SCARDA the real time computer system saw the problem but nearly all the defensive options include mean shutting down parts of the gird, power to millions of people, which is a hard choice to make, although if not covered in a timely manner the cascading would occur. Here is a scary book to read on the subject;

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...5871440-6244020

We also saw the rolling blackouts in California and the vulnerability of getting the grids energy to the Los Angeles basin where Southern California inhabits over 16 million people. We should understand the flows of our civilization and that includes our energy needs. We should not take it for granted or waste it. It is not free and a little conservation from everyone can go along way to making sure it is there when we need it and need it we shall. Teach your kids to respect energy, understand its value to our society and to conserve. We all need energy. Think about it.

I respect the teaching of Christainity but I don't like to be keep pushing by them?

I have some Christain friends, who very much like to share with me their Christain study. While I already have my own spritual development, I still respect other religions, and I have told them in a nice way, while I don't mind to get together with them and share the teaching from different religions, but I'm very committed in my own religion development, however they misunderstand my point, and I notice that they just simply wanting to share with me their teaching but they have not interest to listen my religion's teaching.

How should I tell them in a tactful way that I dont agree with their approach, and yet don't hurt their feeling, so we still can become friends and share the teaching with one another.

The Bible teaches that where 2 or 3 are gathered in His (Gods) name He is with them. Have a Bible study, or something similar, with them, each person having a Bible. . No other books, no writings etc.from other religions,- just the Bible and the Bible only. Where there is controversy over a given matter, look it up in the Bible and see what the word of God says. Let the Bible be your source. Read, digest, comprehend every word concerning the subject. I think this will probably help. God Bless....

Public Schools: Alternative Education. 17 years old.?

I really can't go into depth as far as detail goes. All I can really say is a close friend of mine NEEDS to get out of her current home situation... not because she WANTS to, but because she really NEEDS to. She is currently seventeen years old, and will be turning 18 mid October.. Currently living in Washington state. She has a safe place to go in Oregon.. but I'm curious for her, how she will be able to get enrolled into like a public alternation education school without a parent signature. Is a "guardian" signature enough? or will she be okay without one considering she turns 18 in October?.. what are the laws and her rights in Oregon, for a situation like this?

I'm not in Oregon, but I would think state laws are similar in regard to school enrollment, since there are federal guidelines too.

In my state she will need her parent or guardian's signature to enroll. If her parents are willing to sign over guardianship, it will be no problem. They have to give her guardian a notarized letter to do so though.

Tao which is actually pronounced as "dow" is translated to mean the way or path in English. Tao in reality is not so easily definable. Tao is the power of the universe that encompasses and moves through all things, both living and non living. The Tao stands for balance and shows the harmony of opposite sides, such as light and dark, love and hate, male and female.

The founder of Taoism is believed by many to be Lao-Tse (604-531 BCE), a contemporary of Confucius. (Alternative spellings: Lao Tze, Lao Tsu, Lao Tzu, Laozi, Laotze, etc.). He was searching for a way that would avoid the constant feudal warfare and other conflicts that disrupted society during his lifetime. The result was his book: Tao-te-Ching (a.k.a. Daodejing). Others believe that he is a mythical character.

Taoism began as a mixture of psychology and philosophy but eventually evolved into a religious faith in 440 CE when it was adopted by China as a state religion. Taoism, along with Buddhism and Confucianism, became one of the three great religions of China. China's support for Taoism stopped with the end of the Ch'ing Dynasty in 1911. Religious freedom became even further restricted after the Communist Party's victory and takeover in 1949. Much of the Taoist heritage was lost in the Cultural Revolution that occurred from 1966 to 1976.

Tao is the first-cause of the universe. It is a force that flows through all life.

"The Tao surrounds everyone and therefore everyone must listen to find enlightenment."

Each believer's goal is to harmonize themselves with the Tao. Taoism has provided an alternative to the Confucian tradition in China. The two traditions have coexisted in the country, region, and generally within the same individual. The priesthood views their many gods as manifestations of the one Dao, "which could not be represented as an image or a particular thing." The concept of a personified deity is foreign to them, as is the concept of the creation of the universe. Thus, they do not pray as Christians do; there is no God to hear the prayers or to act upon them. They seek answers to life's problems through inner meditation and outer observation.

Some of the basic tenets of Taoism are the following:

oTime is cyclical, not linear as in Western thinking.

oTaoists strongly promote health and vitality.

oFive main organs and orifices of the body correspond to the five parts of the sky: water, fire, wood, metal and earth.

oEach person must nurture the Ch'i (air, breath) that has been given to them.

oDevelopment of virtue is one's chief task. The Three Jewels to be sought are compassion, moderation and humility.

oTaoists follow the art of "wu wei," which is to let nature take its course. For example, one should allow a river to flow towards the sea unimpeded; do not erect a dam which would interfere with its natural flow.

oOne should plan in advance and consider carefully each action before making it.

A Taoists is kind to other individuals, in part because such an action tends to be reciprocated.

Taoists believe that "people are compassionate by nature...left to their own devices they will show this compassion without expecting a reward."

Once again, Flavius Josephus spoke about John the Baptist, isn't this proof of Jesus also?

And he says that John taught that it would be acceptable to good that they be baptised. Now which God wanted this done? None other than Jesus Christ.

Isn't this proof?

"Now some of the Jews thought that the destruction of Herod's army came from God, and that very justly, as a punishment of what he did against John, that was called the Baptist: for Herod slew him, who was a good man, and commanded the Jews to exercise virtue, both as to righteousness towards one another, and piety towards God, and so to come to baptism; for that the washing [with water] would be acceptable to him, if they made use of it, not in order to the putting away [or the remission] of some sins [only], but for the purification of the body; supposing still that the soul was thoroughly purified beforehand by righteousness." Flavius Josephus, Jewish Antiquities book 18, chapter 5, paragraph 2

ok,

here is the thing, what are you looking to prove with this?

that a MAN named jesus existed that fit the role of a preacher going around preacing reforms in the jewish religion around that time.

or that a man nammed jesus existed, performed miracles and was the son of god during that time.

if you are trying to prove the first statement- then this can certainly (as can the other writings about jesus) prove that a man nammed jesus existed, and his followers believed that he was the son of god, etc.

but it does not prove his role that christian mythology places him in.

just like many stories that tend to point to the same person, tends to lend credibiity towards the existance of that person- but these stories are obviously fables that are exxagerated most times so other than verifying that a person nammed "jesus" did exist, this does not prove the religious aspects of the man.

there are also holes in these sources and thier use is limited, but if all you seek to establish is jesus' existance, then they do go a long way towards an offering of proof and verifying that jesus existed. If you expect them to be taken for the truth of thier words and stories and that jesus performed miracles and was the son of god then they offer no proof.

the fact that many stories mention the same person- tends to indicate that that person, or a person like him existed that filled that role.

As a homeschooler one of the most important tasks for you to accomplish in your child at an early age is getting them interested in and developing good reading habits. At an early age learning to recognize letters, the sounds they make and words they eventually form should be an activity and not a structured assignment. A great reading activity for kindergarten aged children, for example is to read to them.

A natural progression in your reading activities with your children is that after you read them to a passage from the story; have them paraphrase the story back to you. This will help you to understand what level of listening ability and understanding they are at, as well has help them to begin building their vocabulary as they work to find new words they can use with their description of the story they are giving back to you.

Good reading activities don't always have to occur at the house, or just before bedtime. While you're running errands around town or on vacation, perhaps have the kids begin to collect words from signs, or spell objects they see. Encourage them to learn different ways to describe objects see. Instead something big, it may by huge, or enormous... or even of gargantuan proportion! Have you child arrange the words they have collected into silly sentences or phrases. Even something as simple as collecting letters from signs, license plates, and such to work their way through the alphabet is a good kindergarten age reading activity.

Not in the car, or travel around much? Use every day items around the house to do the same thing. Labels, there are plenty of labels around the house. Actually put labels on everyday items around the house so your child can associate the spelling, and reading with a tangible item. Then, after a while, take the labels off the items and help your child read and re-label the house.

Once you get your creative juices flowing, you'll come up with many more reading activities. The key is to make reading activities an every day part of their life. Make an effort to spend an hour a day reading more with an hour less of television. T.V. is an extremely passive thought processing activity. While reading and using one's imagination is a source of growth and a great foundation from which to build.

Your business is alive or dead?

Most companies are still organized in a mechanistic fashion. The model developed in the 1800s during the Industrial Revolution when machines were seen as king. And the design has remained so. The "A Better Way" philosophy "Frederick Taylor's time and motion studies and efforts to convert the extensions used in machinery, predictable and efficient. (Principles of Management Scientific, Taylor, 1911). The organization, as "a well-oiled machine" is a vision that continues to this day.

The search for structure optimal organizational and continuous operation with the concept of Max Weber's bureaucratic "ideal" (The theory of social and economic, Weber, 1947). During this period, functionality, structure, hierarchy, hierarchy, division of labor, describing the messages, etc., have been normalized to produce greater efficiency.

The model of the machine began to be revised in the second half of the twentieth century its limitations in a world that is changing quickly became evident.

Mechanistic vs. Organic

Machines are not living organisms are

The machines are not well adapted to environmental changes, simply continue to operate in a predictable manner, regardless changes occurring around them. The agencies, however, interact, adapt and evolve to meet the needs of the environment. The capacity of survival of organisms depends on their ability to adapt to environmental changes.

Organizations are, above all, systems social and business systems. The social and human development of these entities Interactive led to many changes in how they operate and adapt. This component of the man, while making them more adaptable, also makes them less controllable and less predictable. Considering that the command and control are the essential elements of the mechanistic organization.

The new machines can be developed to meet the new requirements, Although this is a long and unnecessary. Obsolescence is ubiquitous and inevitable.

Of course, ultimately, the organizations are not alive either mechanical or organic, but you can see the difference between a relatively stable and the evolution of one, changing entity.

Organics is "Health"

Whether in the boardroom or the supermarket, the organic is healthier! The toxic nature of the stagnation the former, does not respond, difficult to change, business organization is obvious to those who are involved in one. It is inertia, partly because of "resistance to change," in mainly because of "interests", and to some extent the illusion that is, indeed, "a better way."

Having the characteristics of a living organism, the environmental organization seeking better and more synergistic "match" between himself and his surroundings.

health organization depends largely on the model established.

How can we make the transition from mechanical to organic farming?

We will .. Advance This is not a task easy. There are over one hundred years of history, theory and practice of the organization to support the existing structures. Inertia is enormous, and it is always a fear, and resistance to change. Of course, you can achieve.

The mindset must change. To do this, the leader should "grow" growth of the organism. "How do I?

To continue with the culture of "analogy", the leader begins:

First select an area that is fertile. Find an area that is conducive to the planting of "change". Start with a small garden. In many companies this will research, product development or marketing areas.

Second, begin to till the land for planting. Agriculture is "shake up" the status quo, and prepare the area selected for growth. old patterns must be deconstructed before being transferred the new can begin.

Third, sow the seeds of change and growth. Planting Leader (ideas) of the amendment. So once you take some roots, which protects the fragile plants (change initiatives), with the greatest care and attention. As anyone who knows that a garden grown is a challenge.

Fourth, encourage and promote planting through the use of fertilizers, making "bad herbs, etc. Fertilize the new generation of ideas and relationships with support, praise, attention, information and love. When the weeds of doubt or dissatisfaction appear, remove them with participation, trust and communication.

Quinta. Then, when growth change and mature, the crop harvest. The awards process obvious. The result should be productive, with significant results, based on a better organization, better communication, teamwork, recognition of individual talents and contributions, reducing territoriality, a better adaptability to the environment.

Put it all together

Recognize if your home the traditional organization hierarchy to do the work for you. In some areas, it works better than others. If you decide you want to change the way to work, consider a more organic form. Try the "culture" of the model described above.

Modern times require new approaches adapted to rapidly changing conditions, more able to cope with the more intense and more competition and more favorable to the sociology of the company. Breaking barriers to Artificial rigid organizational structure, well suited to a previous context, more stable, can be your best solution.

Those who teach research and sociologists call sociology. They examine and observe how people interact in society is so they can help people live a better life. Try to understand why people act this way or form when they are with their friends, family, etc. in a crowd

If you want to study this measure is necessary to have an open mind so it can absorb and understand human beings, without trial. The four most common types for the sociology degree are:

curriculum theory and methods textbook

History is an important part of our society, and so are the responsibilities of a History teacher. For those who aspire to be History teachers in the US, the requirements are similar to other subjects; one needs to have at least a bachelor degree and a teaching license.

For those who already have a bachelor degree and wants to shift to a History teaching career, most states require taking additional education units and history core subjects, which leads to master's degree. Popular graduate courses are Masters of Art in History or in Teaching - Secondary History education. Graduates of Anthropology or Social Sciences have an advantage when taking these graduate courses since most will have good background on History or Anthropology courses. Post baccalaureate programs include subjects in Teaching in K through 12, US Civilization, World Civilizations and History, Research Methods, Secondary Level American History, Archaeology, Anthropology and Social Science survey.

For those who are still in college or planning to get a second degree to be a History teacher, BS in Secondary Education in Social Studies is the best choice. It provides all the pedagogical courses up to the K12 level, plus covers all the history subjects needed. Additionally, these programs include teaching internships or practicum hours.

After getting masters in education or BS in education for history teaching, the next step is to pass the assessment processes for licensure. PRAXIS I,II, III, which can be taken before, during or after taking teacher training programs, are the most widely accepted standardized tests nationwide for aspiring teachers. One must get passing marks in PRAXIS II History core exams, and then pass the PRAXIS III observation exam. The PRAXIS III is a real teaching class assessment where education officials assess an aspiring teacher's capability to handle the subject alone.

There are also accelerated programs for teaching licenses, which may accept foreign or interstate teachers. This accelerated teacher training includes screening tests for subject proficiency, as well as English communication proficiency. For example, foreign teachers are required to get a valid working visa for the state he or she will teaching, and may also be required to get at least 84/120 score (like in Arizona) in TOEFL or an equivalent passing mark in IELTS. Some states also include critical thinking tests and at least 2.5 GPA on bachelor's degree and in consequent History teaching preparation courses. After that, one can get a temporary approval to be a History teacher assistant, which usually can be finished in a year's time.

There are still other alternative teacher certification pathways for aspiring History teachers. As the demand for new History teachers grow every year, new alternative processes that speed up certification are being implemented state by state. Always check on the state education agencies, as requirements can vary per state.

Creationist, may I ask...?

If you truly feel that your theories are valid and should be taught in schools, then why do you ignore the proven method of ending up in textbooks: by publishing in scientific peer reviewed journals and having the work accepted by the scientific community? Instead, you try to legislate your theories into the classrooms. No other theories that are taught have EVER been legislated into school curriculum - so why yours??

Just an honest question. Not attacking your views, not ridiculing them. Just wondering why you choose legislation over peer review...
Watchman - #1, the eye is not perfect. Far from it. The structure causes us to have a blind spot, due to the nerves entering INTO the eye, rather than connecting to the outside. #2 - you DO realize that all the quotes you supplied are at the least 25+ years old, correct? A LOT has changed since then. You might want to read up on new discoveries...

Does any other branch of science that can get away with an answer of missing link when ask to prove the theory other than evolution? It means the evidence doesn't exist.

How does a complicated gene program know to make perfect eyes by chance. Man with intelligence can't even design anything as sophisticated as the simplest cell.

Astronomer Robert Jastrow says: “To their chagrin [scientists] have no clear-cut answer, because chemists have never succeeded in reproducing nature’s experiments on the creation of life out of nonliving matter. Scientists do not know how that happened.”—The Enchanted Loom: Mind in the Universe (New York, 1981), p. 19.

Evolutionist Loren Eiseley acknowledged: “After having chided the theologian for his reliance on myth and miracle, science found itself in the unenviable position of having to create a mythology of its own: namely, the assumption that what, after long effort, could not be proved to take place today had, in truth, taken place in the primeval past.”—The Immense Journey (New York, 1957), p. 199.

According to New Scientist: “An increasing number of scientists, most particularly a growing number of evolutionists . . . argue that Darwinian evolutionary theory is no genuine scientific theory at all. . . . Many of the critics have the highest intellectual credentials.”—June 25, 1981, p. 828.

Physicist H. S. Lipson said: “The only acceptable explanation is creation. I know that this is anathema to physicists, as indeed it is to me, but we must not reject a theory that we do not like if the experimental evidence supports it.” (Italics added.)—Physics Bulletin, 1980, Vol. 31, p. 138.

Are those who advocate evolution in agreement? How do these facts make you feel about what they teach?

The introduction to the centennial edition of Darwin’s Origin of Species (London, 1956) says: “As we know, there is a great divergence of opinion among biologists, not only about the causes of evolution but even about the actual process. This divergence exists because the evidence is unsatisfactory and does not permit any certain conclusion. It is therefore right and proper to draw the attention of the non-scientific public to the disagreements about evolution.”—By W. R. Thompson, then director of the Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control, Ottawa, Canada.

“A century after Darwin’s death, we still have not the slightest demonstrable or even plausible idea of how evolution really took place—and in recent years this has led to an extraordinary series of battles over the whole question. . . . A state of almost open war exists among the evolutionists themselves, with every kind of [evolutionary] sect urging some new modification.”—C. Booker (London Times writer), The Star, (Johannesburg), April 20, 1982, p. 19.

The scientific magazine Discover said: “Evolution . . . is not only under attack by fundamentalist Christians, but is also being questioned by reputable scientists. Among paleontologists, scientists who study the fossil record, there is growing dissent.”—October 1980, p. 88.

What view does the fossil record support?

Darwin acknowledged: “If numerous species . . . have really started into life at once, the fact would be fatal to the theory of evolution.” (The Origin of Species, New York, 1902, Part Two, p. 83) Does the evidence indicate that “numerous species” came into existence at the same time, or does it point to gradual development, as evolution holds?

Have sufficient fossils been found to draw a sound conclusion?

Smithsonian Institution scientist Porter Kier says: “There are a hundred million fossils, all catalogued and identified, in museums around the world.” (New Scientist, January 15, 1981, p. 129) A Guide to Earth History adds: “By the aid of fossils palaeontologists can now give us an excellent picture of the life of past ages.”—(New York, 1956), Richard Carrington, Mentor edition, p. 48.

What does the fossil record actually show?

The Bulletin of Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History pointed out: “Darwin’s theory of [evolution] has always been closely linked to evidence from fossils, and probably most people assume that fossils provide a very important part of the general argument that is made in favor of darwinian interpretations of the history of life. Unfortunately, this is not strictly true. . . . the geologic record did not then and still does not yield a finely graduated chain of slow and progressive evolution.”—January 1979, Vol. 50, No. 1, pp. 22, 23.

A View of Life states: “Beginning at the base of the Cambrian period and extending for about 10 million years, all the major groups of skeletonized invertebrates made their first appearance in the most spectacular rise in diversity ever recorded on our planet.”—(California, 1981), Salvador E. Luria, Stephen Jay Gould, Sam Singer, p. 649.

Paleontologist Alfred Romer wrote: “Below this [Cambrian period], there are vast thicknesses of sediments in which the progenitors of the Cambrian forms would be expected. But we do not find them; these older beds are almost barren of evidence of life, and the general picture could reasonably be said to be consistent with the idea of a special creation at the beginning of Cambrian times.”—Natural History, October 1959, p. 467.

Zoologist Harold Coffin states: “If progressive evolution from simple to complex is correct, the ancestors of these full-blown living creatures in the Cambrian should be found; but they have not been found and scientists admit there is little prospect of their ever being found. On the basis of the facts alone, on the basis of what is actually found in the earth, the theory of a sudden creative act in which the major forms of life were established fits best.”—Liberty, September/October 1975, p. 12.

Carl Sagan, in his book Cosmos, candidly acknowledged: “The fossil evidence could be consistent with the idea of a Great Designer.”—(New York, 1980), p. 29.

Might it be that the evolutionary process took place as a result of mutations, that is, sudden drastic changes in genes?

Science Digest states: “Evolutionary revisionists believe mutations in key regulatory genes may be just the genetic jackhammers their quantum-leap theory requires.” However, the magazine also quotes British zoologist Colin Patterson as stating: “Speculation is free. We know nothing about these regulatory master genes.” (February 1982, p. 92) In other words, there is no evidence to support the theory.

The Encyclopedia Americana acknowledges: “The fact that most mutations are damaging to the organism seems hard to reconcile with the view that mutation is the source of raw materials for evolution. Indeed, mutants illustrated in biology textbooks are a collection of freaks and monstrosities and mutation seems to be a destructive rather than a constructive process.”—(1977), Vol. 10, p. 742.

What about those “ape-men” depicted in schoolbooks, encyclopedias and museums?

“The flesh and hair on such reconstructions have to be filled in by resorting to the imagination. . . . Skin color; the color, form, and distribution of the hair; the form of the features; and the aspect of the face—of these characters we know absolutely nothing for any prehistoric men.”—The Biology of Race (New York, 1971), James C. King, pp. 135, 151.

“The vast majority of artists’ conceptions are based more on imagination than on evidence. . . . Artists must create something between an ape and a human being; the older the specimen is said to be, the more apelike they make it.”—Science Digest, April 1981, p. 41.

“Just as we are slowly learning that primitive men are not necessarily savages, so we must learn to realize that the early men of the Ice Age were neither brute beasts nor semi-apes nor cretins. Hence the ineffable stupidity of all attempts to reconstruct Neanderthal or even Peking man.”—Man, God and Magic (New York, 1961), Ivar Lissner, p. 304.

Do not textbooks present evolution as fact?

“Many scientists succumb to the temptation to be dogmatic, . . . over and over again the question of the origin of the species has been presented as if it were finally settled. Nothing could be further from the truth. . . . But the tendency to be dogmatic persists, and it does no service to the cause of science.”—The Guardian, London, England, December 4, 1980, p. 15.

But is it reasonable to believe that everything on this earth was created in six days?

There are some religious groups that teach that God created everything in six 24-hour days. But that is not what the Bible says.

Genesis 1:3-31 tells how God prepared the already existing earth for human habitation. It says that this was done during a period of six days, but it does not say that these were 24-hour days. It is not unusual for a person to refer to his “grandfather’s day,” meaning that one’s entire lifetime. So, too, the Bible often uses the term “day” to describe an extended period of time. (Compare 2 Peter 3:8.) Thus the ‘days’ of Genesis chapter 1 could reasonably be thousands of years long.

Life is a series of trials and errors. Trials and errors make you to become strong or to become weak. The matter of choice it's depend upon you, if you will accept the challenge of life or to give up!

Timidity is considered by the writer as a great crime. For the reason that it can diminish the reasoning power and poise of its bearer that sometimes destroy the bearer's precious name and pride.

A person with a timid spirit cannot trust on his intuition. He kept on wandering and blaming the circumstances as well as people around him due to the lack of success. A timid individual suffer without acknowledging his own defects in the matter of insight. He tortures himself by building judgments upon feelings and not upon evidence. If he will not learn to get rid of it, he is the most less fortunate human being ever existed in this land!

To enable to get rid of timidity, an individual should encourage himself to apply the following precepts.

1. Think positively. Exercise your will-power to dwell in the positive aspects of your personality. Never mind what people think of you. Do what you think is right!

2. Love and learn to appreciate your being. Never hate and blame yourself for the lack of success in life. If you experience hardships and setbacks today, remind yourself that this too, shall pass! Comfort yourself with this word: Learn, Laugh at your mistakes and makes a glorious one!

3. Learn to discipline yourself. Remember no one can help you, only yourself! If you really want to conquer the impossible and to shoot the star of your dream, then, learn to discipline yourself and everything you do will run smoothly as what you have plan.

4. Learn to focus your attention in one object at a time until you'll be able to finish it. This is one of the secret formulas applied by the great men of the ages that makes them attained great success and famed in life.

5. Be an optimist in all times. Don't wait for love instead feel, apply and share it. Don't wait for opportunity instead find and create it. Don't go for less instead gets the best. Don't compare yourself to others instead be true and unique. Don't avoid failures instead face and accept it as a challenge. Don't dwell on errors instead learn from them and makes a glorious one. Don't ever give up instead move forward and believe that you can if you think you can. Don't close your eyes instead open your mind and think. Don't run from life instead play your role and enjoy it!

6. Don't be shy and afraid to speak out of your emotions and feelings. Share your knowledge and ideas. Prove to them that there is an iron and gold in your mind!

Starting today, make this as resolution as well as motto in life: I am the master of myself, I am the master of my destiny, I am the master of my fate, and I can excel in this land!

Remember, there is no impossible to a person who thinks he can!

Wish you many blessings to come and God bless!

Is a psychology course the same as a sociology course?

what is the difference between the two. I know psychology is the study of behavior.

Are the terminologies the same?

Psychology is the study of human behavior. Sociology is the study between groups of people.

Psychology examines more of the workings of the human mind, why persons think and behave as they do. Sociology tends to examine groups of persons (societies), communities, and nations. They might examine and discuss such things as folkways, mores, changes in populations, effects of events on entire communities, etc... So one way to look at it is that psychology is more about the individual or small group, and sociology is more about communities and larger groups of persons.

The terminologies are interchangeable in some respects.

I just read about this on another post. I couldn't believe what I was reading. What do you think about it?

Humanistic Judaism:

WHAT WE BELIEVE – THE PHILOSOPHY OF HUMANISTIC JEWS
Humanistic Jews affirm that:

"A Jew is someone who identifies with the history, culture and future of the Jewish people."

This definition:

[it] INCLUDES ALL PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE JEWISH
WITHOUT REQUIRING THAT THEY BE BORN
OF A JEWISH MOTHER OR FATHER - OR -
THAT THEY CONVERT TO JUDAISM
IN ANY FORMAL WAY.

So if you want to be a Jew, you're a Jew. Nothing else needed.

http://www.jewishtoronto.net/page.aspx?id=77578

All that is required is the individual’s decision to be Jewish. Humanistic Jews reject the idea of “conversion” in which a person becomes Jewish by taking on a particular set of beliefs because in reality Jews have no set of shared beliefs by which we can define who is a Jew.

http://www.humanisticjudaismla.org/id24.html

Look, I was surprised too when I read that!!

I'm a Christian (Protestant) and well, I have researched a lot about Judaism and there are not unified opinions on who is a "Jew" and who isn't. That Humanistic group you list above doesn't stress or emphasizes on religion. It's rather a philosophical tendency and it's not very new. And yes, you wrote it right: " So if you want to be a Jew, you're a Jew. Nothing else needed".

Many rabbinical councils won't agree with this statement or with what these non-religious groups believe. There are some GENETIC TESTS that have been going around lately that have proven most of the JEWS in the world to be genetically related or connected, with kind of like a Semitic common origin, because that's where they come from. So, technically a person could say he or she is a Jew, even if he/she practices or believes another confession. Nobody can rebuke him since there's no formal authority or regulating body that states officially who is a Jew and who isn't. Rabbinical authorities are the ONLY ORGANISMS that can say who is a JEW and who is not, but that only applies to religious families. To the denominated 'secular Jews', no regulation can apply.

Even the Ministry of Absorption of Israel, which is in charge of the Aliyas, or IMMIGRATION to Israel hasn't officialy taken a policy to say "You are a Jew, you aren't". Basically, anybody who has a Jewish ancestor and can prove it with a synagogue membership, or any certificate that officially states a person's religion as "Judaism" is enough. Theories have emerged everywhere quoting the "nonexistence" of the Jewish people, alleging that most of those who consider themselves Jews or practice the Jewish religion are descendants of converted tribes and peoples from distant corners of the world. There is another theory that says that the PASHTUNS people are descendants of the Jews during their exile in Babylon many centuries ago.

I'm confused too, but this is one of the topics with which you can't prove somebody wrong or right. Information is manipulated everywhere to benefit economic and political interests. Nowdays, it's "politically incorrect" to face the truth or at least question it regarding certain matters.

Hope you can find out more!!

Thank you!
