What is Tariff, how and what for it works ?
I think it's too late for me to understand anything explained in the online dictionaries. This is the first time I'm facing economics and I just haven't been accustomed to thinking in this sphere.
Why does tariff exist and who benefit from it ? What balance is being maintained ?
Tariff is a tax on items being exported into a country. The theory behind it is this: If a country makes and sells steel, a tarriff on imported steel is levied so that the imported steel is more expensive then the locally made steel giving the local steel an advantage in the steel market. The problem with this is the local steel market companies can keep prices artificially higher then they should be as is the case for tariff imported steel. This makes schools and hospitals and cars more expensive. Tariffs, for this reason, ends up hurting more people then they help. If a country has say 100 steal workers then I'm hurting thousands upon thousands to keep them in market share by making the whole population spend more on steel products.
