Innovate Faster

Today's economy, more than ever, compels innovation and a rapid succession of new models in order to remain vital and profitable in the market. The ability to reduce development cycles and development costs can be achieved by sharing expensive engineering capabilities, and dynamic, cost-effective collaborations to design quickly and efficiently more and multiple products. Effectively utilizing the latest CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM technology including 3D design to suit your specific needs can help produce more accurate, more complex designs in shorter lead times at an average of 22% and reduce non-conformance issues up to 40% when compared to standard 2D methods.

Collaborate Better

Effective and early collaboration is absolutely critical, with up to 70% of a product's total lifecycle costs being defined during the early phases of product development. Having a supplier that understands the demands and challenges of your product development process and is able to help meet those challenges lends itself to faster innovation capacity and capability. Even if you are already implementing the latest CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM in-house a professional design services firm can provide the ability to increase your capacity by seamlessly integrating with your team to manage the demand with focused expertise.

Manage Data Effectively

The development of new automotive products and processes is no easy task. A host of design, product, and process data must be captured and managed. The better managed, and more this data can be condensed into an easy-to-search repository, the higher the quality of development process that can be achieved and the more this data can be leveraged for future designs. Vital to this end, is the creation of fully assoicative 2D production drawings, 3D solid models and 3D visualisations, rapid prototyping models, BOM's, products with multipe configurations and model variants, simulations and analysis reports, and project management documents such as revision lists and drawing lists.

Manage Engineering Changes

Engineering changes typically occur at a rapid rate during the design, assembly, and testing phases. A change to the project can affect many documents. Utilizing the latest CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM technology can help avoid costly mistakes by ensuring that changes made anywhere in the process automatically update all product documentation, including parts, assemblies, and systems drawings.

If you are not currently using industry standard solutions, implementing this capability will require a large upfront investment of not only money but also time. A professional design services firm, having already made the necessary investments to overcome the steep learning curve and infrastructure setup for these tools, will be prepared to augment your capability quickly and cost-effectively. Acting as an extension of your team, they can provide the focused services that you need to more rapidly develop innovative designs, and create professional product and project documentation quickly and easily. You can take advantage of the following benefits:

o Achieve optimized solutions around cost and performance.

o Innovate new high efficiency products with respect to energy and resource conservation while maintaining leading positions in product performance and reliability.

o Develop and evaluate multiple design concepts with the use of engineering analysis, rapid prototyping techniques and general design skills.

o Test and evaluate models to identify best practices in design, manufacturing and performance.

o Perform component and subsystem design.

With more and more electronic and software content, hybrid power trains, drive-by-wire systems, sophisticated infotainment systems, highly optimized aerodynamic and vibration behavior it helps to be able to tightly integrate the domains of Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineering. You need the ability to work unimpeded with ECAD and MCAD data. Electronic devices can be checked for efficient cooling by simulating convection and conduction within their designs.

Automated, parametric drawings substantially reduce the time and cost of the design, especially when the task is complex, involves intricate details, custom and broken-out sections, cavity pieces for mold generation or requires numerous changes.

With engineering services you can analyze the physical behavior of designs through simulation to improve time to market and reduce errors later in the development cycle, conduct quick stress analyses to make sure that parts can carry anticipated loads, improve designs by reducing weight without sacrificing strength. Collision detection can be invaluable, particularly in the engine area where clearances can be a major issue. These capabilities help reduce developments cost by reducing the number of needed physical prototypes.

At Gill Incorporated Design Solutions we effectively harness parametric design solutions and sound engineering principles to cut costly mistakes. Driven by passion, Gill Incorporated Design Solutions is focused on creating long term partnerships that provide value for our clients and ourselves. Please contact us if you are interested in such a partnership or any of our services.

Thank you very much for your time.

What do I put on a resume when I'm in the process of changing my major?

I have just finished my first year as an undergraduate majoring in biomedical engineering but I'm currently in the process of switching to chemical engineering. I'm applying to internships generally for chemical engineers but my resume says biomed and I'm afraid that some companies might discard my resume once they see that. One company had a footnote that biomed students should not apply for the job.

Is there something that I can say in my resume to let these companies know that I'm switching out of my current major?

P.S: The company listings are off of my school's database so only resumes, no cover letters, can be sent directly to company.

If you have already switched majors or are currently switching majors try something like, "currently pursuing a bachelors degree in chemical engineering" under the education part of your resume...

EDUCATION
SCHOOL'S NAME HERE TOWN STATE
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
CURRENTLY PURSUING A BACHELORS DEGREE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
GRADUATION DATE 05/2010 (WHENEVER YOUR ESTIMATED DATE IS)

(of course not all in caps though)

This way it will give you better chances of getting the interview, and you can explain then that you are switching. Perhaps even by the time of the interview, your major will already be switched and all set.

Future employers will not look at is lying, so do not worry about that. They will know you want the job, and that you now see what you want for your future.

Stay positive, be confident, and BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

The scientific study of language is called linguistics and it encompasses various sub-fields of study. In the past, the study of language was referred to as philology. Unlike modern linguistics, philology was more focused on the historical aspects of language.

Nowadays, philology is generally referred to as the study of grammar, literary traditions and history of a certain language. In the field of academics, the accepted English term for the scientific study of language is now linguistics.

Modern Linguistics

From the 20th century onwards, linguistics has been conquered by the Generativist school. This mainly explains how people acquire language and how they conquer the biological obstacles on this quest for language acquisition. The Generative theory is the most dominant and highly popular theory as compared to other linguistic theories.

The sub-fields in linguistics include evolutionary linguistics; historical linguistics; and sociolinguistics. Evolutionary linguistics tries to explain the origin of language; historical linguistics focuses on the many changes in language; and sociolinguistics explains the link between social structures and variations in linguistics.

There are many modern fields of disciplines that are quite relevant when it comes to the study of language. Linguistics draws many concepts from many of these fields of discipline such as acoustics; psychology; computer science; informatics; human anatomy; biology; sociology; anthropology; and neuroscience.

Linguistic Structures

Linguistic structures are pairs of form and meaning also known as Saussurean signs (the term being derived from Ferdinand de Saussure's name; he being the forerunner of linguistics as non-historic in nature). These pairings could include hand movements, patterns of sound and written symbols. The sub-areas for linguistic structures are the following terms (ranging from form to meaning):

o Phonetics is defined as the study of speech's physical properties. It is also understood as the signed productions of perception.

o Phonology focuses on studying sound. This can be adjusted to those who would want to learn the signed language). These are also the abstract aspects in the speaker's mind which point to meaning.

o Morphology is the study of words' internal structures and how these can be changed.

o The study of word combination and grammatical sentence formations is called Syntax.

o The study of word meanings, fixed combinations of words and the combination of both are referred to as Semantics.

o Learning the uses of utterances in communication is referred to as Pragmatics. This encompasses the literal and figurative meanings of these words.

o Discourse Analysis is the examination of text usage in language. This includes spoken, signed and written formats.

General Language Structures

Whether the language is English, German, French, or any modern language, their structures have similarities. It has been understood that most languages tend to evolve around categories in grammar such as verbs, nouns, past and present tenses, etc.

Prior to recursive structures in grammar, linguistic systems were either phonological or morphological. This means that language has a property that can organize elements to recursive structures.

Recognized sub-fields of linguistics include diachronic linguistics (the study of language at a particular time frame more often than not the present); contextual linguistics (this focuses on the integration of linguistics with other academic fields such as sociolinguistics or neurolinguistics); and applied linguistics (aims to point at the similarities and differences between languages).

Conclusion

Linguistics plays a major part in the evolution and understanding of different cultures and traditions around the world. Without the study of languages, perhaps man would be nothing but a mere caveman until now.

The language machine offers a wide variety of language courses including German, Italian, French and Spanish Lessons London.

quick sociology question...10 pts?

i am reviewing my sociology notes for a class and i cant figure out an example for the following "assumption": that a structure can become harmful to the collective. also that it is possible for a structure to be functional and dysfunctional at the same time...

Um.. I hope i got the meaning of structure right..

school should be good for both. School teaches students but also promotes rigid thinking.

Culture, economic, social and political factors

Culture, economic, social and political factors must all be considered when designing teaching and/or training resources for online courses. Culture is sometimes blamed for mis-communications. Cultural differences in body positions and movements, eye movement, hand movements, and handshakes make it easy to misunderstand individuals from a culture different than your own. Even smiles are perceived differently in various cultures. Attitudes concerning human relationships differ, too.

Culture differences

Culture differences affect the quality of communication. There are several ways to prevent or reduce the number of mis-communications. Avoid words derived from culture, such as drive-in, sit-in, cover-up, and blurb. Groovy, cool, hot, extreme, and other slang words, whether in the dictionary or not, may be difficult for people of other cultures, as are double verbs such as 'give away.' Colloquialisms may or may not have similar meanings in other cultures, and as such should also be avoided.

Economic differences

Economic differences often determine what exposure an individual has had to online technology. Rather than assume that everyone online has all the neatest and newest gadgets, such as Flash or other plugins, we should keep in mind that the online learner may not have these and may not understand the process of getting even those that are free. Another difference is the equipment available to the learner. Some learners will have state-of-the-art computers and peripherals with broadband access, while others will have used computers several years old and be attending classes over a slow dial up connection. All course materials should be provided in multiple formats to allow all learners to have access. If the learner does not have Flash and his or her computer will not support it, the same information must be available in another format, such as plain text. It may not be as pretty and, well, flashy, but it will allow the learner to understand what is expected in the course.

Social differences

Social differences are often, though not always, tied in with economic differences. In some countries, it is considered extremely rude to question instructors or those of higher rank. In others, it is a common occurrence, and is expected student behavior. It is true, even in this country, which is supposed to be a classless society, that there are social differences between classes. For instance, most people would dress up if invited to have brunch at the White House with the First Lady.

Impact of information technology

Information technology has caused a great impact on the need to consider such concerns in developing online courses, especially those on the open Internet rather than behind university firewalls. Students from different geographical areas can share their cultures with other students in the online classroom, exposing all learners to diverse ideas and differing cultural viewpoints. When online course developers learn the cultural standards of their students, they are in a better position to help their students succeed.

Psychology Fear Test

Psychology Fear Test Psychology Fear Test

As a coach, I regularly make use of cognitive psychology to help clients change thinking patterns that prevent the accurate assessment of business situations. The theory behind this approach is that feelings and behaviors are driven by the thoughts that people have about events, not the particular events themselves.

In the early 1960's, Albert Ellis, a pioneer in the cognitive method, devised a list of 10 "irrational ideas," or specific thoughts that cause problems in the way people perceive and respond to situations (1) (among them: "one should be thoroughly competent, adequate and achieving in all possible respects;" and, "it is terrible, horrible and catastrophic when things are not going the way one would like them to go").

Everyone operates with certain beliefs that are taken as fact and rarely, if ever, challenged. Sometimes these ideas can hinder productivity, or make it impossible to see new or creative options. Beliefs become "irrational" when they defy logic and objective analysis.

In my practice, irrational beliefs show up in a myriad of ways. There's the entrepreneur whose refusal to delegate is limiting company growth. Belief: "No one can do the job as well as I can." There's the business owner who settles for mediocre employee performance. Belief: "I can't afford good people." Then there are managers who fear confrontation ("If I ignore the situation, it might fix itself") or who micromanage ("I am 100% responsible for everything that people in my department do").

The Rationality of Beliefs Checklist is a tool that can help you test the validity of your personal ideas or even those of your organization at large. First, write down the thought to be challenged, and then answer "yes" or "no" to each of the 10 questions below.

Finally, tally your score. The more yes's you have, the more rational your belief/assumption. No's indicate the degree to which holding on to that idea may be getting in the way of your success and/or increasing your level of stress.

Questions to test the rationality of your belief or assumption:

1. Are you comfortable with the possibility that you may be wrong?

2. Is this belief/assumption based on an objective view of the facts and does it fit with other relevant facts that you know to be true?

3. Consider what would happen in the future as a consequence of this belief/assumption. How likely is it that this will actually happen?

4. Does believing this help protect your life and health?

5. Do you never deny, exaggerate, or avoid facts or events which may show this to be wrong?

6. Does this belief/assumption coincide with what you have been told by other people who are usually rational?

7. Does believing this help you achieve your short- and long-range goals?

8. When you hear or think of opposing views are you open-minded and really willing to consider that they may be true and you may be wrong?

9. Does believing this help you prevent useless conflict with other people?

10. Does believing this help you feel the way that you need and want to?

If your idea doesn't pass the Rationality check, the next step is to replace it with a new one that will further your objectives and that you believe is true. The last part is key to the process and to making lasting change. For example, a poor delegator might do this exercise and decide that no one else can match her skill at business development, and that routine administrative tasks can be executed with aplomb by someone else.

The Rationality of Beliefs Checklist can be also be employed to test assumptions you have about company strategy, your competitors, what's possible to achieve, and other situations that are governed by the status quo or ripe for a new approach.

How can I found out what to major in?

It's almost time for me to pick a major. I have taken the ASVAB test and many other quizzes to find out what direction I want to take. The result told me that I am an investigative person, a thinker. Taken other professional test that also told me I was a thinker and an adventurer that uses the left and right brain at the same level. I would love to go into Foreign Languages like French and Russian and become a UN translator but unsure. My other interest have been journalism (paparazzi), nanotechnology, psychology, philosophy. My biggest fear is that I will go into something that will not benefit me...I'm afraid I will not be able to do anything with my degree.

It would be great if someone seen a pattern in a interest and could point me into a direction or major that would use most of them.

So, I assuming since it is time for you to CHOOSE a major that you are now at least a college sophomore, yes?

Just remember, and this was the only instruction I gave my two (now grown) kids while they were searching for their own majors... now an attorney and a doctor. Whatever you do, you MUST absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to that thing every day. It must possess you with a single mindedness that haunts you and makes you breathe it. You will be with it every day for the majority of your life so make sure it makes you laugh and give you great joy; otherwise it will bring you incredible sadness. Money will mean very little if you don't have joy to go with it. Choose because you absolutely LOVE what it brings you inside and everything else will fall into place.
