Different types of psychology fields?

i was planning to major in psychology in college and i was just wondering if there was a field of psychology that mixes current problems of global warming and the natures environment with a psychological aspect.

and if some one could give me a specific name of the field if there is such one.

thank you [:
i already looked up (environmental) psychology and it has to do with human interactions in like a building or workplace and like what kind of rooms and buildings make people act a certain way.

thats not the field i would like to major in

Perhaps you might want to get into community psychology or health psychology since I am guessing that you would like to know the effect of these hazards on the psychological well-being of people.

FORWARD

Kal Bishop's 188 stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth) is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the hundreds of Hollywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL below) are based on this 188+ stage template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters. This is the template you must master if you are to succeed in the craft.

[The terminology is most often metaphoric and applies to all successful stories and screenplays, from The Godfather (1972) to Brokeback Mountain (2006) to Annie Hall (1977) to Lord of the Rings (2003) to Drugstore Cowboy (1989) to Thelma and Louise (1991) to Apocaplyse Now (1979)].

THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY

SITUATIONAL AND STRUCTURAL STORYTELLING

It's important to get away from this idea that all stories are different.

On a situational level all stories are. For example, Gladiator (2000), Alien (1979) and The Godfather (1972) all are situationally very different.

But on a structural and subconscious level, they're all the same.

And I don't mean basic structure, like three act structure (of course stories have a beginning, middle and end). And I don't mean plot points etc either (Plot Point 1 and 2, Midpoint etc).

I mean, sequence by sequence, the vast majority of successful stories [we haven't found one that doesn't] follow the same process that pushes the Hero and Major Characters through the process of Transformation and Challenge Resolution.

What this means is that you, as a writer, must confidently understand this structure (Kal Bashir's 188+ stage Hero's Journey), use it to establish your structural outline and then superimpose your situation over it.

Go to http://www.heros-journey.info/ for the complete 188 stage Hero's Journey.

ABRIDGED TIPS, EXCERPTS AND EXAMPLES:

*****Magic Flight*****

A flight (with an air of the supernatural), often away from the Greater Antagonism. In Brokeback Mountain (2005), Jack goes to Mexico.

*****Belly of the Whale*****

This is a form of Netherworld in between the First Threshold and the World of the Transformation. It is where the Hero comes face to face with what s/he must do or be or become or face. This stage is characterised by certain elements:

Again, this is a New Domain, somewhere we have not been before. In Superman (1978), Clark travels north and builds the Ice House. In Thelma and Louise (1991), they book into a hotel.

Lack of commitment is noticeable for unwilling Heroes. In Thelma and Louise (1991), Louise doesn't yet know what to do.

New Knowledge. Here a Mentor or other guide teaches new skills and knowledge. In Superman (1978), Clark learns from Jor-El through the crystals.

What the Hero is getting into. In Harder they Fall (1956), Art shows Eddie the video.

Where to start ? A Department Reorg Project?

Hi !
I work as a training officer/clerk in a training department of a financial firm. We are trying to do a complete reorganization for the dept. where we move from paper-based work into automation and management information systems. The section is almost chaotic , no proper filing , no standard data and templates , data are in separate data islands ! Our data is contained in MS Word docs and we want to re-think the whole dept. and put a working model in place. This is a management issue and not only a computerization matter. Where do we start ? from data modeling ? process mapping ?? I have a library of books but I'm confused what is the right starting point. This is a project for our section to be done by our section employees. We do not want to indulge the IT department in this project since they use a bulky dbms and program it awfully not utilizing intl. standards like HR-XML for instance.
I hope I described my situation clearly. Please provide help from your experience

1. Launch a pilot project (and secure the needed funding)
2. Attack the problem from both fronts. Process and IT.
3. Model the macro level and micro level processes.
4. If you are delineating the processes standardize on clear and simple interfaces.
5. Spin off teams with the constituent process and their implementation.
6. Hire a consultant to provide feedback.
7. Start with step no 2.

What can I do with a Minor in Sociology?

I have a BA in English and a Minor in Sociology and am currently a graduate student working towards an MFA in Nonfiction Writing. I have interned at a nonprofit where I was Editorial Assistant for their magazine, and I also mentored two "high risk" teen girls. I LOVED this internship, especially the mentoring, and decided I'm really interested in pursuing some sort of work with nonprofits or some sort of social work. Will my minor help me out with this, or would I need to go back to school for sociology/social work?

You could probably do grant writing for a non-profit. I'm not sure if you could do anything else with only a minor in sociology. I'm also minoring in sociology, but that's because I plan on going to graduate school for social work. They like to see a good social science knowledge base.

You could try going to the library. I'm sure they have books on how to break into non-profit jobs. Idealist.org may also have something.
