Scotland has throughout its history been playing Soccer. Historically Scottish soccer players weren't limited to 11 players per team, whole villages of Scottish soccer devotees used to challenge other villages to a game.

The rules of soccer at that point weren't very uniform and there was little if any provisions against violence, because of this attempts were made to outlaw the game, with King James I even saying in Parliament, "That na man play at the Fute-ball" (No man shall play football/soccer). Despite the attempts of clerics, sheriffs, mayors and even a King the game was kept alive by Scottish soccer players.

As times changed Soccer became a widely accepted sport again, firstly being played at school and universities. At these institutions the rules for soccer were formalized to something closely resembling today's game. The game's popularity then spread beyond the school campuses, and local soccer clubs were formed, soccer became a popular spectator sport with "blue-collar workers".

With the wide acceptance and popularity of soccer, the World's first international game was set up, between Scotland and England. The game took place on 30 November 1872. The Scottish side was one of Scotland's oldest and most established Soccer club, Queens Park. Two thousand people came to the game and saw the last and possibly biggest revolution in the playing of the game. The Scottish team introduced a whole new aspect to the game that day, a team based approach utilizing, passing. Up till then the way the game was played was to "muscle" the ball up the field in Rugby like fashion, after that game the English began adopting a playing style to match the Scottish soccer team, and Soccer in its current form was born.

The Scottish soccer team did not exist that day in the form that we now understand; soccer was played by Universities or Clubs, with no central organization to elect a national team. There was no Scottish team picked from the best players around, but a club to represent the whole country. To cope and control the rising popularity of the game Scotland formed a Football Association three month after the first match between England and Scotland. Wales then followed and formed a FA in 1875, and then Ireland in 1880. England on the other hand had formed their Football Association in 1863. With the formation of a Football Association, Scotland was able to establish leagues, tournament and even a national team.

With forty two different professional teams over two different leagues, it is understandable that Scotland has some of the most dedicated Soccer fans in the world; this also applies to the female fans. Scotland has also always had a strong legion of female soccer lovers and players. Seeming to always be pioneers in the game Scotland and England were also the first two countries to have an international woman's match. Fifty three thousand people came to watch this event, in which unfortunately the Scottish soccer team lost 22-0.

Now that the fall semester is gearing up, you're probably cooking up new ways of getting today's students engaged in their studies. And since conducting class via Twitter sounds neither feasible nor appealing, it might be time to look into your other options.

With more and more sites like YouTube, Facebook and StumbleUpon competing for their attention, it's tricky getting students interested in the good ol' paper-based classics. In terms of sheer stimuli, even something as high-spirited and swashbuckling as The Three Musketeers can't top the average computer game of ten years ago. "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock?" Forget about it. Dig up the most everyday, run-of-the mill, uninspiring gray sock from under your bed, multiply that to the power of lint, and you still don't come anywhere close to as boring as J. Alfred.

Or so he would have you believe. The truth, of course, is that beneath his timid, meticulous, slightly balding exterior, Prufrock is a dark, complicated, and deeply conflicted man. He reads death in the evening sky. He wanders through cheap back alleys by night. He feels tortured over a mysterious, shawled woman. And, unlike every single person around him, he is utterly, painfully aware of the idiocy of his conventional little life. True mediocrity would never feel confined by such circumstances. By this measure, J. Alfred Prufrock is one of the single most inspiring figures in poetry - even if only through negative example. His 132-line treatise on whether or not to "dare disturb the universe" is enough to get even the most bashful admirer-from-afar to buy a bullhorn and make for the rooftops.

But whether you choose to read him as trapped by his situation or too weak-willed to transcend it, one thing Prufrock refuses to be is consistent. He laments that social niceties leave him "pinned and wriggling on the wall," feels that the treachery of women has brought his "head... in upon a platter," and even sees the gloomy evening as a "patient etherized" and waiting for disassembly, yet he simply cannot stop himself from dissecting everyone and everything around him: the "faces that you meet," the "hands of days," the "eyes that fix you," the "[a]rms that are braceleted," the "pair of ragged claws," the "long fingers," and the "nerves in patterns" are all representative of a cold, calculating rationality that structures his otherwise emotionally turbulent interior.

Of course, the conflict between content and presentation is found in everything from the classic realm of literature to the brave new world of media; the key is in finding teacher resources that recognize the difference. Is "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" wildly exciting? Absolutely! Could it use a little gussying up for today's students? You bet it could. Is it as easy as turning the poem into a face-paced interactive game in the style of Guitar Hero? Maybe. But in general, our experiences show us that life is rarely that simple. Otherwise, no one would need separate Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter accounts.

why is it that tradional teaching of social - studies remained depite the various strategies?

In my experience, coaches whose jobs depended on game wins were the teachers of history, thus the traditional, "read the chapter and answer the questions and be quiet while I stand at the door and talk to the principal or another coach about Friday night's game."

Preschool Educational Dvd

I am sure that everyone has heard by now about the sweat lodge tragedy in Sedona which took three lives during a James Ray retreat. It is a horrible incident which has brought much attention to the New Age, Self Help movement.

The current energies are bringing much that has been hidden into the Light. We are seeing this in our government, financial system, religion, health and other areas. All areas which are not aligned with the higher vibrations are being brought into the Light.

James Ray is one of my favorite motivational author's. I have enjoyed his teachings and put them to work in my own life. He has a way of explaining things that I thought I already knew in a way which has brought a much deeper understanding. He has given me many 'aha' moments.

Everything which happens to us is created by our own belief system and the energies we send out. We create our reality with out thoughts, words and actions. One has to wonder what energy James Ray was putting out which attracted this negative attention to him.

As a child, James Ray was the fat kid in school that no one wanted to be friends with. Even though he has grown beyond this emotion and become one of the most revered motivational speakers of our time, inside he obviously still carries this energy of the kid who gets picked on. This hidden energy is what I feel attracted this unwelcome attention to him.

We can think we have healed an issue when in reality it is only hiding within us waiting for the opportunity to rise to the surface at the most unwelcome time. I feel this is part of the reason this event took place as it did.

I also feel that there is a lesson in this event about always being in integrity. For those of us who are Lightworkers, it is important that we always be aligned with the Light, with Truth and the Heart.

The self help industry has grown very quickly over the last few years. More and more people are opening up to spirituality and this has created many Self Help Gurus. When one becomes known as a guru, with millions of people following them throughout the world, it is easy to allow the ego to take over, to see themselves as more important than they really are. These gurus begin to charge more and more for their events, they churn out book after book, dvd after dvd, earning millions in the process. Their work becomes ego based instead of heart based.

I have seen this happen to many of the cast of the movie 'The Secret'. These people went overnight from almost totally unknowns to stars. Some of them have managed to stay in integrity and changed very little, while others have allowed their ego to inflate instead of their hearts.

This is what I feel has happened to James Ray and why this tragedy occurred. Because he is still that fat kid inside who was picked on in school, he attracted this incident to him to bring him into the public eye for ridicule once again. Though many other gurus could have drawn in this experience, James had the perfect energies hidden within him that attracted it to him.

I hope those of us in the Self Help movement will learn the lesson that we are being shown at this time in always being in integrity. We teach living from the heart, and this is how we must live each and every moment of every day. We cannot allow our ego to take over and lead us away from Love and Truth.

Is it common for preschools to sometime show movies (non educational)?

At my son's preschool they've showed movies on more than one occasion with excuses like, it's the holidays and it's chilly out or it was a prize; now it's summer and they had water play and then watched a movie. My son was all upset because they didn't let him watch it because we've confronted them on it before and told them we are not okay with it. We don't have tv at home (apparently like the only people ever) but we do have movies and shows on dvd or whatever. We just find it highly inappropriate to be paying for our son to go to preSCHOOL and watch it. I'm beginning to feel like I'm the only one who thinks this is problem! P.S. I went to 'daycare' as a kid and never watched tv so I know it can be done.

Are the children there all day? How many movies do they watch each month? Are they educational? I agree that they should not be watching movies all the time, but if it is an educational video that will enhance their learning of a certain subject, I think it is ok. If it is more than once a month or so, I would have a problem with it.
